I'm crazy when it comes to tuning, I admit it. My bandmates throughout the years have had to endure with my obsession with being in tune. Other than messing up a part in a song, which by the way most audience members don't usually catch on to, there is no better way to ruin a number than a bandmate being out of tune. If you're on stage you need a tuner under your feet or in your rack. If you're practicing at home, one of the tuners in the article below should do the trick. I have had pretty good success with Guitar Toolkit so I have no reservation in recommending that product. Happy playing and don't forget to tune. I have been working with Michael for ~5 weeks and have already noticed a dramatic improvement of my level of play, which essentially was starting from scratch. We have done our lessons in person and he has been extremely accommodating and reliable. Alongside learning the key chords, he has taken time to also help me understand the theory behind the music. He allows for a lot of flexibility in the lessons depending on my level of play and helping to leverage my strengths and weaknesses - in other words, there is no "lesson plan." He has made playing enjoyable, despite the usual frustrations any new player is going to hit along the way. In that time, he has been able to take from an accomplished rhythm guitar player who struggled to understand lead guitar to a true student of the scales.
We do our lessons via Skype and also in person, when possible. Michael is doing a great job helping me master the understanding of the theory behind great playing lead guitar. But, more than that, he already has me soloing with multiple scales in the same key. His approach is thoughtful and focused but not overwhelming. I am having a great experience so far. I took lessons from Michael, concentrating mostly in theory. Michael was very involved, informative, nurturing, and extremely well prepared for each lesson. It was a pleasure learning with that added personal touch that only comes from a great teacher. His prowess as a guitar player, and his knowledge of theory ranging from the basics up to the expensive chords are pure magic. Not to mention, he is willing to join in on a few jam sessions to encourage camaraderie and the ever important "live atmosphere" among his students. The student will be content, disciplined, and stage ready!
